Applying for the American green card is a very common
procedure as a green card holder is able to work and live in the United States
legally. Once the application is sent, you will be called for an interview in
order to help the authorities finalize your application’s decision. The
interview is usually held in a federal building close to you.
All you need to know about a family based green card interview
The interview that is held after 3 to 5 months of applying
for the green card is a necessary part and with its help, the authorities are
able to determine whether they should permit the applicant a green card or not.
The questions asked may circle around the applicant’s life. We have listed a
few sample questions asked at a family based green card interview:
1.
Do you have any criminal history? Were you ever
arrested?
2.
Which member of the family is sponsoring you for
a green card?
3.
What are your plans for settling in the USA?
With what means do you plan to support yourself?
4.
What is the date of the American Independence
Day?
5.
Who is the closest to you in your family?
6.
Who was the first president of the United
States?
If you are applying for a green card on the basis of a
spouse, then you may be interviewed a little more intensely as there are people
who attempt green card marriages solely for the purpose of obtaining a green
card. This method is considered a crime in USA if the attempt is proven to be
true and both the spouses will be guilty for this crime. The interview of both
partners in the marriage is held separately at times in order to test for any
signs of fraud. In that case, you can expect the following type of questions:
1.
What is the date of birth of your spouse?
2.
What is the work schedule of your spouse and what
type of work do they do?
3.
How long did you and your spouse date before you
both got married?
4.
What beverages were served in your wedding
celebration or reception? (If you had any).
5.
What is the size of the bed that you and your
spouse share?
You must be on time for the interview or arrive at the
meeting place earlier in order to avoid a situation where you keep the
interviewer waiting. Give brief answers to the questions as the interviewer is
allotted very less time for each interview as there are many other people
waiting to get interviewed.
Make sure you read the interview alert properly as depending
on your type of green card application, they may ask you to bring along certain
types of documents with yourself. In case you make any mistakes such as forget
a document, you may be allotted a time limit to provide the document but it
does leave a bad impression so make sure you are absolutely ready for your
interview!
